My historical focus is in late antique and early medieval Europe. I am primarily interested in post-Nicaean Christianity and Roman imperial authority in the late antique western Mediterranean. My research centers on how the bishops, senators, and inhabitants of the city of Rome and the western peripheral capitals of Milan, Ravenna, and Trier competed over the residency of the emperors in the 4th and early 5th centuries. This holistic examination gives us a new perspective on cities, power, and Christianization in Late Antiquity.

I received my BA in History with a minor in Religious Studies from the University of Memphis, graduating summa cum laude. I earned my MA in History from the same institution.
