This workshop is for anyone who is curious about doing archival research or learning to navigate gatekept institutions. Lauren will discuss archival materials as primary sources unto themselves and then provide a sample “workflow” of how one can gain access at desired institutions, including workarounds for classic barriers to entry. This workshop inadvertently also works to relieve some of the pressure placed on junior scholars to network. We will interrogate the assumption that networking involves high-power meetings with senior scholars and instead explore networking as "a reason to talk to someone."
