Hello from the Media Team at the Center for Culture, Society and Religion at Princeton University!
CCSR’s Media Team provides students and scholars who work on religion a chance to learn and experiment with different forms of public engagement. We produce new resources and think together about the means and ends of public scholarship on religion.
In the current media world, public scholarship takes many forms. Podcasts, K-12 curriculum, crossover books, media interviews, and public writing are all ways for scholars to share knowledge and pose questions with an audience beyond the academy. This fall, we are excited to release videos and interviews featuring scholars whose work speaks to public conversations.
Our team produces original work and curates work produced by others. Curation is not neutral, of course, and our selections reflect our guiding questions and principles. Some of our initial interests include the variety of people’s experiences within religious traditions, the presence of religion in unexpected places, and the stable legacy of domination in the category of “religion” itself.
At the same time, we are not arbiters of what public scholarship on religion has to be. Instead, we want to build connections between scholars and the public, and we are excited to explore what is productive and what is possible. Keep an eye on this space in the coming weeks, and we hope you’ll be inspired to think in new ways about religion.
